How To Be A Guest On A Podcast
Did you know that being booked as a guest on a podcast has the power to boost your own audience and engagement?
It is also a great way to promote your products and services, along with business values, mission and content!
But, how do you actually go about landing the podcast guest gig!?
Well, unfortunately, it isn’t as simple as sending out a mass email to a plethora of podcasts with the subject line, ‘Interview Me.’ It takes a little bit more work, and a much more personable approach!
Feeling stuck? My ultimate goal with this blog post is to help you take the path towards being booked as a podcast guest with both confidence and ease, — all with a few insider tips — so read on, my friends!
But, just before we dive deep into the ‘how’, here’s my belief: Being interviewed on other podcasts is truly one of the most effective ways to grow your audience and expand business reach.
When you are discussing your area of expertise on someone else’s show, the majority of the people you are reaching are already podcast listeners.
It is an opportunity for these listeners to get a sense of your voice and persona, before they have even tuned in to your own podcast.
Yes, this is a good chance to win them over! ;)
Okay, so let’s talk HOW
For starters, this involves a great deal of brainstorming… What kind of podcast would you like to be a guest on? Which ones are currently in your niche? Do they blend well with your business values and goals?
TIP 1: Before reaching out to your podcasts of interest, be sure to do your homework! Listen to a few episodes, and get a sense of the show’s flow and structure, as well as the personality and character of the podcast host. Ask yourself: How can I bring value to their podcast? Will it be a worthwhile experience for both parties involved?
Once you have decided on a specific podcast(s), reach out to them with a proposal that is both detailed and genuine.
A thoughtfully crafted message goes a LONG way here, conveying both your professionalism and passion, so don’t be lazy with your words!
TIP 2: Try not to create a proposal that speaks only to you and YOUR business needs. It is important to keep the spotlight on your fellow’s podcast and listeners, and focus on the benefits that you can offer their target audience.
Although not an exclusive list, here are a few things I believe are important to include in your proposal -
Desired topics of discussion
The reason why you believe your presence as guest would be valuable to their listeners, or the benefits
A little bit about you and your background
The ways you will share the episode to drive traffic to their show - via social media or other content marketing strategies.
What would YOU add to my list?
TIP 3: You don’t have to reach out to other podcasts solely by email. Another option is creating your proposal in audio or video form, which is indeed an excellent way to stand out and reveal not only your amiability, but your innovative side as well. In fact, these are both qualities I personally would seek out in a podcast interview guest!
FINAL TIP: If you are having difficulty booking a slot as a guest on a podcast independently, there are platforms you can use that conveniently help connect podcast guests with podcast hosts.
We recommend using Buzzsprout!
As for your next step? Time to start preparing for when you do get booked as a guest podcast interviewee, because I know you’ll get there!
