4 Tips For Creating Awesome Podcast Graphics

Yes, podcasts are largely an auditory experience, BUT a lot of significance can be placed in the visual as well, aka your podcast’s graphic art.

Podcast graphic art ultimately acts as your show’s first impression — before your words reach the ears of listeners, they are first going to see your visuals, and well, this is a ‘make or break’ situation.

Graphic art that is dull and thoughtless is certainly not going to draw in your target audience, and is sadly enough to deter podcast listeners from checking out your episodes.

So, how does one create podcast artwork that is both eye-catching and engaging? Graphics that will fascinate, spark curiosity and attract new listeners? We’re offering 4 tips to help you out in this particular podcasting department!

1. Use A Professional Headshot

Incorporating a professional headshot or photo of yourself into your podcast artwork is a great way to stand out! Why? It will reveal your aesthetic and ‘vibe’ with ease, as well as the message you aim to share with potential listeners.

People love to see a face to the name, and because you are the host AND the core of your podcast, it is definitely appropriate to be the main focus of your visuals here!

Insider’s Note: In a way, people will be judging the above like a book cover, but don’t let this scare you! Ask yourself — How can I personalize my podcast design so that it both intrigues and resonates?

In regards to your headshot, be sure to choose a photo that is high-quality, and definitely take note of your background. You can also include your podcast logo here if you have one!

2. Decide On A Theme

Embodying the theme of your podcast into your graphics is a powerful strategy to visually communicate the spirit of your content.

Does your podcast exude a happy energy? In this case, you would want to be smiling or laughing in your podcast pic.

If your podcast involves sharing tips and advice, then perhaps it would be better to embrace a power pose.

How about a more reflective and soul-searching podcast? Here, I would recommend a photo that is more candid, revealing your softness and casual demeanour.

Once you have decided on the above, you can create graphics that convey your overall message to an audience. Remember to have fun with it!

3. Use Your Branding Colours

This tip is an especially important one, because when it comes to your podcast content, consistency is key.

By utilizing your branding colours in podcast graphics, you are maintaining consistency, as well as strengthening your brand identity

What are branding colors, you may ask?

It is the color palette associated with your logo, website, social media, etc. So, be sure to identify them before creating your podcast graphics!

Insider’s Note: Trust is crucial in developing a loyal audience base, and listeners are more likely to share your podcast with others if they trust the consistency of your content — visuals included.

4. Remember, Less Is More!

That’s right - when it comes to designing podcast cover art, less is more, my friends!

Your graphic design should embody what your podcast is about, so choose a title that you love, and possibly (but not mandatory), include a subtitle that compliments it; the latter is only if you feel as if the title doesn’t entirely express everything in a few words.

Insider’s Note: You don’t want your graphics to look overcrowded — be sure to stick to minimal text and 1-2 fonts, so that it is less busy and more concise on brand. Serif fonts work well!

The ‘less is more’ approach to podcast graphic design allows for clean and uncluttered visuals, and this is truly effective in capturing and communicating your podcasts’ overall message clearly. No extra fluff is needed here.

As most of us learned in school, let the KISS principle be your guide, and Keep It Simple Stupid. ;)
